Dog shot, killed in Jefferson County
This is just heartbreaking! To think that a human being can be so heartless and cruel! It’s unbelievable that this monster is only being charged with a misdemeaner! So sad!
JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ohio — On Tuesday night, evidence was laid out on a computer screen — a shotgun shell, an alleged crime scene, and a victim.
The story started late on Thursday night in Bergholz with a call for help, the person on the other end told dispatchers that her dog had been shot and killed.
Jeff Bruzzese, assistant prosecuting attorney said, According to witnesses immediately prior to the shooting the dog was laying on the ground and was not acting in an aggressive manner or in a menacing fashion. The defendant had been drinking at the time and had decided to shoot and kill this dog.
The prosecutors office is taking this seriously by charging the suspect Dale Daviduk with one count for using a weapon while intoxicated and another for cruelty to animals. These two misdemeanors could carry jail time.
That ultimately will be up to the judge, said Bruzzese. Of course many of us treat our dogs like children and family members of course the law hasnt caught up in that area so a first degree misdemeanor is the only charge available.
Even more gut wrenching is the fact that children were around, and that this dog had seven puppies who were just two weeks old and now must survive without their mother.
Theres no rationale for doing something like this, said Bruzzese. To shoot a dog thats not attacking a person and to do that in front of young children its an alarming crime.
Officials say they are getting the puppies the help that they need. Daviduk was not arrested, instead he has been summonsed to appear in court. Investigators say his arraignment will likely happen this week.
